Silk tapestry, 2nd half of the 18th century, Poland. Composition of three vertical stripes: central stripe embroidered on white grosgrain with gold metal thread, bullion, thread, and silk yarn. Upper part shows a cartouche under a crown entwined with a blue ribbon bearing the star of the Order of the White Eagle; the cartouche is divided into five fields containing the White Eagle and Pogon, with the SAR monogram in the center. Below is an eagle with the Ciolek coat of arms in a cartouche on its chest. Royal numerals SAR appear in the corners of the upper and lower parts. Side stripes are pink originally probably crimson grosgrain with wide gold bobbin lace sewn on. Ribbons formerly attached have been removed. Lining of pink cotton or silk? fabric. Height 83 cm, width 88 cm. Subjects/marks: Pogon, White Eagle, Ciolek, SAR monogram; decorative tapestry., A rectangular textile panel with a central vertical band flanked by two wider patterned side panels; the central band is lighter in color with metallic embroidered motifs including a crowned shield, ornate flourishes, an eagle-like figure, and two tasseled ornaments, showing metallic gold and silver threads with touches of blue and a pale beige background; the side panels have a repeating organic lattice and floral pattern worked in metallic threads over a faded pinkish-beige ground, creating a textured, scalloped edge on both sides; overall colors visible include gold, silver, pale beige, pinkish-beige, and touches of blue, with areas of darker patina and wear and a narrow decorative border along the top and bottom.
