Umbrella, women's umbrella made of white lace. Canopy trimmed with cream silk at the bottom, concealing the metal structure and, when unfolded, providing a backdrop for the lace covering. Bone handle carved with floral motifs and folds in half. c. 1850–1875, France. Length 66 cm; diameter 57 cm., A delicate parasol with a scalloped lace canopy in shades of cream and off-white is open and viewed from beneath, showing a translucent fabric interior with a soft beige tone and a decorative lace border; the ribs and shaft are black with a contrasting ivory-toned section near the top, and a carved ivory-colored handle with an attached cream ribbon bow rests at the base against a neutral gray background.
