Women's umbrella made of white lace. Its canopy is trimmed with cream silk at the bottom, which conceals the metal structure and, when unfolded, provides a backdrop for the lace covering. The bone handle is carved with floral motifs and folds in half. c. 1850–1875, France. Length 66 cm; diameter 57 cm. Materials/attributes: umbrellas, fashion, lace, women's fashion, 19th century fashion accessories., A delicate lace parasol in shades of cream and ivory rests against a neutral gray background, featuring a scalloped lace canopy with floral and dotted patterns, a few decorative bows in a pale beige attached near the top and along the handle, and a slender dark shaft with a carved or inlaid lighter decorative band running along part of its length; the lace edges form a ruffled trim and the overall appearance is ornate and finely detailed.
