Console, purchase, Vilnius - gifts and purchases 1945-1947, Biedermeier and Louis Philippe styles, rectangular carved mahogany-veneered console on four angular legs mounted on a platform with a wavy outline; front legs strongly curved, rear legs straight and flattened, with bases and capitals. Entire piece polished. Platform supported by four low turned legs. Lower leg sections formed of channel sections decorated at top and bottom with knobby pinnacles. Wide frame repeats concave-convex shape of top, rounded at front corners, wavy-cut at bottom, framed with a half-cylinder; front frame forms face of the drawer. Top has a profiled edge, connected to frame with cube side panels. Drawer contains two rows of compartments inside; small corner ones in front row have rosewood covers. Drawer secured by a single-bolt mortise lock. Dated 1835–1850, Vilnius place of origin?, piece of furniture — table; height 82 cm, width 107.2 cm, depth 45 cm., A wide wooden headboard with a smooth, polished surface showing rich wood grain in shades of brown and darker brown, curving gently along the top edge and framed by darker trim; a few carved decorative elements peek above the top with rounded floral-like details, and the background is a pale gradient of light gray to off-white.
