Furniture panel in bas-relief in the shape of an elongated standing rectangle, late 15th century, France. Fragment of furniture height 72.8 cm, width 25.2 cm, depth 3 cm. Decoration: plant twig with flowers bearing a dragon, an owl, and an animal playing bagpipes possibly a dog or monkey sitting on it; at the top tracery with fish-bladder motifs and a lily flower. Decoration enclosed in a rectangular frame with lines intersecting in the corners. Gothic style; drôlerie; animals, fantasy animals, plant ornament, musical instruments., A tall rectangular wooden panel carved with a vertical sequence of decorative motifs, showing a range of carved forms in brown wood tones. At the top a rounded arch framing stylized leaf and vine shapes with curved, pointed elements. Below that an arched frame contains a carved animal figure sitting upright holding an implement, with surrounding curved branches and floral motifs. Further down another circular frame encloses a carved bird with detailed feather textures perched near a blossom, with leaf and vine elements around it. Near the bottom a carved creature with wings and an elongated body stretches horizontally across an arch, adjacent to small floral carvings. The panel surface shows natural wood grain, carved relief, worn edges, cracks, and variations in the brown coloration.
