Chest of drawers, Biedermeier style, ca. 1820, Southern Germany possibly Munich. Cuboidal four-drawer chest of drawers with a stone top; front flanked by semi-columns supporting the upper narrow drawer. Prismatic block legs. Front veneered with patterned walnut. Lower drawers separated by drawer runners, with inlaid and ink-painted lock plates in the form of interconnected cornucopias. Ink-painted decoration on the face of the upper drawer: a symmetrical plant twig with flowers and, in the center, two reclining lions facing each other. Bases and heads of half-columns made of cast brass. Board back set in a rebate; frame top plate with two beveled panels. Materials/ornament: lions, columns, architectural elements, plant decoration, cornucopias, acanthus. Function: piece of furniture, storage. Dimensions: height 89 cm, width 86.7 cm, depth 53.4 cm., A wooden chest of drawers with a dark gray marble top sits against a light gray background; the chest has a warm brown wood grain with intricate swirling patterns on the drawer fronts and a darker brown decorative band beneath the top that features a lighter tan floral and foliate motif, flanked by two rounded vertical columns with brass-colored metal rings near their tops and bases, and a few brass-colored key escutcheons centered on each drawer; the piece rests on blocky feet with cutout arch shapes and shows tones of brown, tan, dark gray, black, brass, and light gray.
