Armchair, origin unknown, neo-Baroque, early 20th century, Central Europe. Carved armchair with a padded trapezoidal seat and a high openwork backrest topped with the Gdansk coat of arms supported by two lions, with the motto NEC TEMERE NEC TIMIDE on the sash below. Straight, spirally turned legs with H binding joints. Straight, narrow frame, wider front, wavy-cut, carved with symmetrical acanthus twigs. Wide central backrest board with a cartouche rollwork with a sailing ship enclosed by a fleshy acanthus twig passing into a mascaron at the bottom; mounted between spiral side rails topped with spheres. Straight, angular armrests with padded rests culminating in a lion mask at the front. Structural elements join the cube. Frame painted black. Seat upholstery on springs, upholstered with brown leather, including the armrests. Resembling Gdansk Baroque. Furniture seating piece. Height 135 cm, width 69 cm, depth 75.2 cm., A dark wooden armchair with elaborate carved details fills the frame, featuring a tall ornate back with swirling foliage motifs and a central carved medallion topped by two carved animal figures; the arms end in carved animal heads and rest on turned spiral supports, with similar spiral stretchers and turned legs below. The seat is covered in worn dark brown leather with visible tears and frayed edges, revealing lighter brown underlayers. The wood shows deep brown and almost black tones, with lighter brown areas where the finish is worn. The background is a plain light gray wall casting soft shadows behind the chair.
