Game table, baroque style; ribbon ornament; games; purchase provenance noted; GAME TABLE with a rectangular frame and an extendable tabletop—when unfolded, close to a rectangle with rounded corners and concave sides—supported by four cabriole, smooth legs. The legs are strongly curved and widened at the knees, with a ridge defining symmetry and widened feet so-called vipers. The frame extends, supporting the foldable top plate; wide, flat frame. The tabletop is inlaid on both sides with a ribbon ornament that frames the edges and divides the central field, with loops in the rounded corners, and with the date 1.7.4.8 in black on the outside. On the upper surface of the unfolded tabletop, in the center of each side, are recesses for tokens and stones. Steel scissor hinges. Possibly 1748. Northern Germany origin. Piece of furniture; table. Height 73 cm, width 90 cm, depth 87.3 cm., A wooden table with a warm brown finish and a shaped rectangular top featuring darker inlaid curved decorative patterns, supported by a box apron and a group of elegantly curved cabriole legs with carved knees and slightly splayed feet; the scene shows a smooth neutral gray background and a gray floor, with soft shadows beneath the table.
