Chair, creator unknown, origin Germany, Rococo style, ca. 1750–1765. Rococo chair with a boarded inlaid backrest depicting a lady in a crinoline surrounded by flowers; rectangular originally upholstered seat; supported by cabriole legs decorated in bas-relief with motifs at the top including shells on the knees and terminating in volute feet. Frame has a wavy-cut bottom decorated with acanthus leaves. Seat frame with a wavy outer outline enclosing a padded central section. High backrest with clearance, angular stiles, and a wavy-curved upper section. Inlaid representation on the backrest framed by two intertwining U-shaped ribbons. Ornamentation includes volutes, plant decoration, acanthus, shells, female figures, flowers, and ribbon-and-pincer motifs. Seating piece, height 115 cm, width 53 cm, depth 63 cm., The image shows a wooden chair photographed from the side against a gray background, featuring a tall, straight back and a seat with an upholstered cushion in a light tan color; the wood has warm brown tones with carved decorative details on the apron and cabriole legs that end in small curled feet, and there are visible grain patterns and some darker brown accents on the chair frame.
