Chair, creator unknown, origin unknown, Rococo style, ca. 1750–1765, Germany. Rococo chair with volute ornament, plant decoration, acanthus, shells, female figures, flowers, and ribbon-and-pincer ornament. Boarded inlaid backrest depicting a lady in a crinoline surrounded by flowers, framed by two intertwining U-shaped ribbons. Rectangular originally upholstered seat supported by cabriole legs; legs decorated in bas-relief with motifs at the top shells on the knees and terminating in volute feet. Frame wavy-cut at the bottom decorated with acanthus leaves. Seat frame with wavy outer outline enclosing a padded central section. High backrest with clearance, angular stiles, and a wavy-curved upper section. Type: piece of furniture seating. Dimensions: height 115 cm, width 53 cm, depth 63 cm., A wooden chair with a high back featuring an inlaid panel decorated with floral and figurative marquetry in lighter and darker shades of brown framed by a curved top rail; the seat has a slightly padded cushion in a beige tone surrounded by a wooden seat rail; the apron and cabriole legs are carved with scrolling and shell-like motifs, continuing down to curled feet; colors visible include several tones of brown in the wood, beige on the seat cushion, and a neutral gray background.
