Cabinet by Jean Goujon ca. 1510–ca. 1565, co-creator, Renaissance style, ca. 1550, France. Two-part rectangular cabinet base and upper part with a front divided by three carved semi-columns; two-leaf doors; two drawers in the upper part of the base. Carved with architectural elements, fantasy animals, dolphins, tendrils, nymphs, and acanthus ornament. Storage furniture, height 191 cm, width 110 cm, depth 43 cm., A tall carved wooden cabinet with a dark brown finish occupies the image, standing on round bun feet and set against a light grey background. The piece has an ornate upper section with a small architectural pediment featuring carved scrolls and a recessed niche, and a larger lower section with a stepped projecting top surface. The cabinet doors and panels display detailed relief carvings including human figures, foliage motifs, and decorative mouldings, framed by fluted pilasters and carved capitals. A carved face motif appears on the frieze above the lower doors, and the wood shows a polished sheen with visible grain and variations of brown. The overall shape is rectangular with layered cornices, raised panels, and sculptural ornamentation in shades of dark brown and medium brown set against neutral grey.
