Casket by, c. 1720–1740, Germany. Baroque cuboid case inlaid with figural scenes and openwork brass fittings. Front shows a deer hunt with dogs; lid has an oval field depicting a sleigh drawn by a deer. Interior: beneath the chamber floor are three drawers middle smaller accessible after folding down the front wall; lid contains a compartment closed with a plate on brass hinges. Thick brass fittings on lid edges and body corners; bottom and back wall fastened with strap hinges with decorative openwork finials visible from back of lid and bottom of front wall. Mortice-type lock with two catches mounted on bottom of lid. Furniture — storage casket. Dimensions: H 21.6 cm, W 42.5 cm, D 27.4 cm., An open wooden chest with a hinged lid and a drop-down front panel sits on a neutral gray surface against a gray background; the chest is made of warm brown and golden wood with darker brown inlaid panels and decorative geometric patterns, and it features several brass fittings including ornate hinges, strap-like supports on the lid, decorative corner plates, a ring handle on one side, and small circular pulls on a row of shallow drawers visible inside the front; the interior shows plain wood panels and compartments, and the lid interior has framed recessed panels with contrasting wood tones and brass fittings holding it open.
