Chest, acanthus twig, fantastic animals, fantastic figures, snakes, coats of arms, herms decorative element, Renaissance style, animal paws, walnut. Cuboid carved chest supported by four low legs, the front ones in the shape of lion's paws, the rear ones angular. Front has an applied profiled frame enclosing a pseudo-panel carved with grotesque elements on a grained background: in the central section two winged genii merge at the bottom into an acanthus twig, holding a laurel wreath above a scrollwork cartouche framing the lock; between the volutes are twigs, snakes and griffins. Herms at the front corners. A prominent plinth molding is symmetrically decorated with gadroons. Straight side walls, originally with doorknobs. Interior on the left side of the cabinet. Hinges and lock striker of tinned, engraved steel. Ca. mid-16th century, Italy. Piece of furniture, storage unit. Height 54.5 cm, width 165.2 cm, depth 57 cm., A carved wooden chest displayed against a plain neutral background, rendered in warm brown tones with visible wood grain and darker brown shadows; the front panel features an ornate relief with a group of flowing acanthus leaves, curved scrolls, and stylized floral forms surrounding a central carved shield flanked by two winged cherubic figures, while each end panel shows a carved female bust above a decorative base; the chest rests on carved feet and has a molded top edge and a carved lower apron with repeating rounded motifs, all in varying shades of brown with highlights and darker accents.
