Rectangular enamelled plaque with a medallion depicting Saint Ignatius of Loyola founder of the Jesuit Order in a richly decorated dalmatic, his head haloed, holding an open book inscribed AD MAIORE DEI GLORIAM on one page. He gazes upward at a cloud of flames inscribed HS, tears streaming from his eyes. The image is framed by a circular band with plant motifs in the corners palmette. Inscription below: S IGNATIUS DE LOIOLA II. 4th quarter of the 17th century, Limoges, France. Dimensions: height 10 cm, width 8 cm. Maker: Jacques Laudin ca. 1663/8–1729, enameller., The image shows a rectangular object with worn edges and a hole near the top center, covered in aged, mottled material with marbled vein-like patterns in shades of brown, tan, green, and dark gray; there are several small pieces of adhesive tape or paper remnants along the borders in off-white and beige, and a few small labels or stickers affixed on the surface in white and light blue; bright red paint marks appear prominently near the top and lower right area; the edges of the object show rust-colored browning and darker burnt or charred spots, and the overall surface has an uneven, textured, and weathered appearance.
