Equatorial sundial by Andreas Vogler ca. 1730–1800, 3rd quarter of the 18th century. Augsburg, Germany. Circular Augsburg-type sundial with a wavy edge; inside the case is a compass with a hinged hour circle and an arched hinged arm marked with geographical latitudes. Engraved decoration on the rim with C-shaped sections and stylized acanthus leaves. Engraved on the underside of the compass case: Eleva. Poli. / Corfu 39 Lyon 45 /' Berlinn 53 Cadiv 36 / Lisabon 39 Paris 48 / Colln 521 Reval 61 / A. Vogler. Function: measuring instrument sundial., An ornate circular metallic object with elaborate scalloped edges and engraved swirling patterns in a golden color, shown open to reveal an inner circular face with a central star-shaped motif and thin dark pointers; the inner face appears silver-gray with aged spots, and the object includes a hinged ring-like component beneath also in gold.
