Square-faced door lock with latches and key. Maker: Michal Taszynski fl. 1820–1838. Made 1861 for the Art of Mastery; marked with the guild marks of the Warsaw Locksmiths' Assembly. Precisely crafted, distinguished by protruding side bolts latches that lock the door simultaneously in three directions top, bottom, middle. Ornamentation on the top with a light pattern. Mechanism: resting bolt with two heads and a latch bolt between them that opens with a half-turn; a full turn of the key activates a double bolt and the locking mechanism. Neat, clean workmanship. Inside the box, on the side, a hallmark stamped twice—a striding figure with a large key likely a striding bear with a key, styled like the city's 19th-century coat of arms. Attribution: Szewczykowski attributed the lock to Michal Daniel Taszynski born 1836, son of Michal Taszynski, a locksmith specializing in polished steel accessories, said to have made his masterpiece in 1861. Dimensions: height 16.1 cm, width 15.8 cm, depth 6.9 cm., A close-up view of a rectangular metal mechanism with a weathered, mottled surface in shades of gray, brown, and rusty brown, set against a pale gray background. The mechanism shows a flat bar extending horizontally across its upper section and a group of metal plates, brackets, and screws with circular openings and countersunk screw heads. A circular keyhole-like opening and a few small round holes are visible on the metal face, along with a recessed lower compartment that contains coiled metal springs and curved levers. The overall appearance is aged and textured, with areas of darker gray and brown patina and lighter silvery-gray edges.
