Pocket watch by John Bushman 1692–1720. Silver pocket watch in three cases: outer case covered with leather, rim decorated with studded silver rosettes; middle and inner cases plain. Underside of inner case stamped with casemaker's initial H and number 3081. Transparent lid. Silver champlevé dial with Roman hour markers and Arabic minute markers in oval reserves on a matte background; central circular reserve with the watchmaker's signature on two semicircular plates reading BUSHMAN and LONDON; date window at the bottom. Steel hands with openwork hour hand. Movement with plate skeleton, spring drive, worm gear, and Gall chain; spindle escapement. Gilded lower plate with an openwork English-style bun in the form of a wreath filled with acanthus tendrils and an openwork grid, connected by a mascaron mask with an openwork bun foot. Hair adjustment is a rotating silver-plated dial with a scale I–VI. Engraved on the plate in italics: Jn Bushman 3081 / LONDON. Circa 1700, London, England. Timepiece. Height 6.5 cm; width 6 cm; dial diameter 4.5 cm; weight 125 g., A circular metal pocket watch with an open cover revealing the watch face and inner rim; the metal surfaces show a worn, slightly tarnished appearance in silver and gray tones with patches of darker and lighter areas, and the interior of the open cover shows a brass-like dull yellowish-brown patina. The watch face features concentric rings with decorative raised ridges and a central circular plate in muted gray and silver, and there are ornate dark bluish-gray hands mounted at the center. A rounded metal loop at the top of the watch is visible in a similar tarnished silver color. The background is a flat, pale off-white or very light gray.
