Pocket watch by Jacques Marcet fl. ca. 1725–ca. 1750. Gilded silver, almost spherical, double-case pocket watch with enameled numerals on the dial. Cases decorated with plant motifs: inner case with flowers in a vase in a reserve formed by a ribbon that on the outer side forms heart-shaped loops with floral sprigs between them; side strip of plant-floral tendrils; outer case with a flower sprig in a circular central reserve surrounded by an interwoven ribbon and floral sprigs in the fields. Movement bears an openwork bow and the Jacques/Marcet signature; inside both cases is the number E. 4 unidentified. Engraved case decoration stylized in a Middle Eastern style—possibly intended for the Turkish market. Watchmaker possibly worked in England if a Huguenot; no firm information known. 2nd quarter of the 18th century, France, classicism; decorative vases motif; timepiece. Height 6.5 cm, width 5.5 cm, depth 4 cm., A round ornate object with a decorative surface in gold tones sits against a light gray background; the object displays intricate engraved floral and foliate patterns across its circular face and has a small dark circular opening; a small metallic winding knob in darker metallic tones is visible at the top.
