Pocket watch by Jacques Marcet fl. ca. 1725–ca. 1750, 2nd quarter of the 18th century. Gilded silver, almost spherical double case; enameled numerals on the dial. Cases decorated with plant decoration: inner case with flowers in a vase in a reserve formed by a ribbon that on the outer side forms heart-shaped loops with floral sprigs between them; a strip of plant-floral tendrils on the side of the case. Outer case has a flower sprig in a circular central reserve, surrounded by an interwoven ribbon and floral sprigs in the fields. Movement with openwork bow and Jacques/Marcet signature; inside both cases marked with number E. 4 unidentified. Engraved decoration stylized in a Middle Eastern style—possibly intended for the Turkish market. Possible French maker, though he may have worked in England if Huguenot.
