Wine testing bowl by Charles-Louis Segay fl. ca. 1783, goldsmith. Wine testing vessel with a shape characteristic of the Bordeaux region, without a handle, smooth. Under the rim on the outside, an engraved inscription: Ms WILCKLER A ALTONA FAIT A BORDEAUX CE PREMIER AVRIL 1783. Dated 1783, Bordeaux, France. Vessel; height 2.6 cm, width 11.0 cm., A round metal dish viewed from above with a recessed central bowl; the metal surface is mostly silver with areas of tarnish and darker gray patches, and there is a section of blue paint inside the recessed area. The rim shows engraved marks and shallow indentations, and the interior of the bowl has scratches and a worn, uneven texture with a small dark irregular spot. The background is a uniform light gray.
