Cartel clock by Franciszek Gugenmus 1740–1820, 2nd half of the 18th century, Poland, Warsaw. Bronze wall clock so-called cartel with rocaille and floral motifs; white enameled dial with black Roman numerals, signed Fcois GUGENMUS / A VARSOVIE. Back covered with a brass sheet with rectangular doors; mechanism not signed and pendulum missing. Bronze casing without traces of gilding, possibly made in Warsaw. Height 80 cm, width 38 cm., An ornate metallic object with a decorative leafy frame and scrollwork in gold tones surrounds a central flat plate with a square opening and a hinged door ajar, revealing inner mechanical components with a patina of greenish and darker metallic hues; the frame and plate show areas of worn and varied gold, with some darker tarnished spots, and the background is a pale neutral color.
