Souvenir key, steel, with a full shank and a simple feather in the form of two square brackets. Gilded bronze knot and handle: oval handle composed of two U-shaped sections decorated with leaves, fastened with a ducal mitre. Inside, an oval plaque with a Gothic monogram M and blue enamel on one side, and a cast inscription on the other: VON / DER STADT / DARMSTADT / DEN 26 DECEMB: / 1833. Given to Duchess Mathilde Caroline of Bavaria 1813–1862 and her husband Ludwig III on the occasion of their wedding, 1833. Germany; Darmstadt. Varia. Height 8.9 cm, width 2.6 cm., A single ornate key is pictured against a plain light gray background; the key has a long metallic silver shaft with a rectangular bit at the lower end and a small rounded tip with a touch of gold, and the upper section features a decorative gold head with curved foliate shapes and a small crown-like element, with accents of white visible within the central area of the head.
