Souvenir key, steel, with a full shank, with a simple feather in the form of two square brackets. Gilded bronze knot and handle: oval handle, composed of two U-shaped sections decorated with leaves, fastened with a ducal mitre. Inside, an oval plaque on one side with the Gothic monogram L and red enamel, on the other with a cast inscription: VON / DER STADT / DARMSTADT / DEN 26 DECEMB: / 1833. Given to Duchess Mathilde Caroline of Bavaria 1813–1862 and her husband Ludwig III 1806–1877 on the occasion of their wedding by the city of Darmstadt to the donated house in Mathildenhöhe, 1833, Germany. Height 8.9 cm, width 2.6 cm., The image shows a single ornate key centered on a plain light gray background; the key has a metallic shaft in a silver-gray color and an ornate bow and collar in a gold color with decorative scrollwork and a crown-like motif, and there is a small rounded gold-colored finial at the bottom of the shaft.
