Rectangular key case with a hinged lid and two clasp hooks. Trimmed with red leather, with gilded embossing; on the lid, a frame along the edge with an ornament in the corners. In the centre, a ducal mitre. On the underside, a gilded frame along the edge, in the centre a non-gilded embossed rhombus with an inscribed quatrefoil, and in the centre a rhombus with a four-petal rosette. Glued on a printed card with inventory numbers numbers added in ink. Inside, a typewritten note describing presentation of the key in 1833. Date: 1833. Place: Darmstadt, Germany. Varia. Dimensions: height 9.8 cm, width 5.9 cm, depth 1.8 cm., An ornate metal key rests inside an open rectangular case lined with light-colored fabric; the key has a gold-toned decorative bow with a crown motif and a dark oval inset, a gold-toned collar and a long silver-toned shaft ending in a bit, and the case has a red exterior with gold ornamental trim and a blue twisted cord along the inner edge, the right side of the case showing slightly darker fabric and faint marks, and a separate small rectangular piece of aged light-colored paper positioned below the case; visible colors include gold, silver, red, blue, beige, cream, and gray.
