Pocket watch by Joseph Zeidlmayr fl. 1st half of the 18th century. Watch in a double case; outer case has a frame around the dial and on the back a repoussé depiction of the Crucifixion with Mary and St. John, surrounded by a border of eight C-shaped sections and further ornamental decoration. Smooth silver inner case. Silver dial with Roman numerals for hours separated by gold dots and Arabic minute numerals. The reserve bears the signature of the watchmaker Zeidlmayr. Inside, the movement cover has a cutout revealing a bun. The movement is marked Breslau / Joseph Zeidlmayr. On the inside of the case are a negative MS mark, a negative mark and a possible illegible goldsmith's mark rosette?, plus two numbers—markings likely made by repairing watchmakers. 1st half of the 18th century; Wroclaw, Silesia; timepiece., A small circular metal object lies open against a pale gray background, showing an inner ring and a decorated interior. The left side is a smooth circular frame with engraved floral and scroll patterns in silver, surrounding a clear reflective surface. The right side reveals an ornate recessed interior with raised sculpted motifs and textured relief work in tarnished silver and dull gold tones, and a small dark rectangular tab along the rim. Overall colors visible include silver, gray, dull gold, and a small area of dark brown or black.
