Pocket watch with key, Eardley Norton fl. 1770–1792 born 1728, died 1792. Two silver cases: smooth outer case and inner case with framed glazed lid. Mechanism cover engraved with an openwork floral twig, winding hole, and bell. White enameled dial with black Roman hour markers, minute scale marked with dashes, calendar with Arabic numerals, three steel hands hour and minute in openwork weave, third straight for days of the month, and small seconds subdial with Arabic numerals. Dial signed EARDLEY NORTON / LONDON. Movement with gilded brass circular plates connected by pillars, spring-powered drive, spindle escapement; lower plate with openwork crown richly decorated with acanthus tendrils and engraved acanthus volutes; cut-out reserve engraved Eardley / Norton London. Preserved winding key on a chain. Repeater mechanism. 3rd quarter of the 18th century; case probably Germany, movement London. Timepiece. Height 8 cm, width 6.2 cm, dial diameter 5.3 cm., A round pocket watch with a metallic silver case and a white face is shown against a pale background, attached to a short aged brass-colored chain that ends in a brass-colored winding key; the watch face has dark thin hands with a decorative pattern and a smaller subdial near the bottom, and the case shows subtle scratches and a slightly tarnished patina in silver and brass tones.
