Double-sided snuffbox, tall, narrowed halfway up; slightly bulging lids, framed by silver, profiled fittings, white-enameled, decorated with colourful scenes from the story of Samson depicted against the background of a landscape painted in grissaille; on the sides two representations — Samson going to the Philistine city of Timna, to which he is shown the way by three women, and Samson fighting a lion; on the lids — Samson carrying the door the city gate to the top of the mountain opposite Hebron and Samson taking honey from the lion's mouth; on the reverse of the lids — two landscapes with architecture painted in grissaille and colorful flowers painted in the bottoms. Early 18th century, France ; smoking accessory. Height 7 cm; width 7.7 cm; depth 4.7 cm., A small curved box with metallic rims and hinges sits on a reflective surface, showing painted scenes on its curved white body and lid; the painted areas include a person wearing purple clothing holding a yellow staff, other figures in colors including pink, blue, and yellow on the lid, and gray sketch-like tree and rock motifs on the sides, with metallic silver edges and a pale gray background, and the reflection of the object visible beneath it.
