Souvenir spoon, Gorham Mfg. Co. Providence; goldsmith's manufactory; fl. 1865- role classification of maker / corporate mottoes / goldsmith's company; souvenir spoon with an ovoid scoop decorated inside with a relief representation of armament and uniform accessories of the American infantry and cavalry; flat, profiled, widening handle with a heart-shaped tip, edged with twisted wire imitating aglets. Along the handle is the inscription ARMY AND NAVY; above it an enameled United States flag in a cartouche, held in the talons by an eagle with upraised wings, on the wings a sash with the inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM. At the end of the handle, two emblems — the Navy US Navy and the Army US Army of the United States — in circular reserves; on the reverse of the handle, accessories of the United States Navy — an anchor with crossed swords on it, below crossed cannon barrels. Late 19th century, United States of America; Providence. Cutlery; height 15 cm, width 3.3 cm, weight 35 g., A metal spoon lies horizontally against a smooth gray background, showing a slightly tarnished bowl with subtle darker spots and a reflective sheen, and an ornate handle with raised decorative motifs and braided edges; visible colors include silver tones on the spoon and various shades of gray in the background and on the metal.
