Toilet box by Thomas I Pitts fl. 1755–c.1793, goldsmith; Classicism style, Georgian/George III period, c.1780–1781, London, England. Round with lid, Classicist toilet box decorated with laurel festoons suspended from rosette medallions; lower edge with a knurled belt of stylized lesbian cymatium. Slightly arched cover edged with a knurled wavy ornament running dog, centrally bearing a circular medallion with a relief of Athena wearing a helmet and holding a spear; on the right side a circular reserve and an olive branch. Materials: toilet accessories. Dimensions: height 5.2 cm, diameter 7.9 cm; weight 206 g., A small oval metal box with a domed lid sits against a pale background; the box is primarily a warm yellow-gold color with subtle lighter and darker variations, and it features decorative raised garlands and floral motifs around its sides in the same metallic tone, a band of repeated leaf-like relief near the base, a rounded stepped foot, and an oval medallion-like detail on the top of the lid.
