Oval toilet box by Thomas I Pitts fl. 1755–ca.1793, goldsmith; oval box on four volute feet formed of acanthus leaves. Lower edge decorated with a band of bay leaves; above them laurel festoons with suspended medallions containing rosettes; upper edge with an anthemion frieze. Hinged, recessed cover bordered with a band of bay leaves matching the body. Center of cover bears a medallion with a relief of four putti at a sacrificial altar. Classical/Georgian/George III style; relief decorations, festoons, palmettes, anthemions, bay leaves. Dated 1780–1781, London, England. Toilet accessory. Height 12 cm; width 27.1 cm; depth 20 cm; weight 1627 g., An oval metallic tray with a worn, slightly mottled surface in pale gold and muted beige tones, showing areas of darker grayish tarnish and subtle greenish discoloration; the tray has a raised rim in similar pale gold with a few decorative tab-like clasps around the perimeter that show brighter silver and gold highlights, and the background is a smooth light gray.
