Oval toilet box by Thomas I Pitts fl. 1755–ca.1793, goldsmith. Oval box on four volute feet formed of acanthus leaves; lower edge with a band of bay leaves, above them laurel festoons with suspended medallions containing rosettes, upper edge with an anthemion frieze. Hinged recessed cover bordered with a band of bay leaves matching the body; central medallion on the cover with a relief of four putti at a sacrificial altar. Classicism/Georgian/George III style; relief decorations, festoons, palmettes, anthemions, bay leaves. Dated 1780–1781. England, London, Great Britain. Toilet accessory. Height 12 cm; width 27.1 cm; depth 20 cm; weight 1627 g., A round metallic dish with a lid shown partly open, the interior of the dish reflecting a smooth surface with a few darker smudges and a curved reflective streak; the lid has decorative ridged edging and a raised central area. The visible colors include gold, beige, cream, silver, and a few dark gray reflections against a pale gray background.
