Jam spoon with an ovoid, serrated scoop decorated with a bunch of repoussé fruit; widening handle with a semicircular tip, slightly curved upwards, decorated with an engraved ornament of leaves and snake-like lines; on the handle in a heart-shaped medallion, engraved with a tied monogram MEK. Made by Peter, Ann & William Bateman fl. 1800–1805 of the Bateman goldsmith firm London; fl. 1761–1843. 1803–1804, London, England. Cutlery; height 20.7 cm, width 4.2 cm., A single ornate spoon rests on a flat background, showing a shiny metallic surface in gold tones; the bowl of the spoon has a scalloped edge and an embossed decorative interior with raised fruit and leaf motifs, while the handle is long and slender with engraved floral-like patterns and beaded edging, all reflecting light to create highlights and darker gold shadows against a neutral gray backdrop.
