Fragrance container vinaigrette, maker Thomas Shaw fl. 1822–ca. 1840; 1782–1845, goldsmith. Scrap-purchase provenance. Bag-shaped vinaigrette with an envelope closure and protruding tongue; front decorated with dot-engraved flowers and leaves. Hinged lid opens to an interior openwork insert decorated with plant scrolls. Dated 1834/1835. England, Birmingham. Toilet accessory. Height 2.1 cm; width 1.5 cm; depth 1 cm; weight 10 g., A small ornate rectangular metal box sits on a pale background, showing a hinged lid and rounded corners; the surface is silver in color with darker engraved decorative patterns and subtle scratches, and there are small raised rectangular and curved elements on the lid and sides, with visible seams where the lid meets the base.
