Fragrance container vinaigrette in the form of a bag with an envelope closure and a protruding tongue, decorated on the front with dot-engraved flowers and leaves. Hinged lid opens to an interior openwork insert decorated with plant scrolls. Scraps; engraved; bag shape; toilet accessory. Maker: Thomas Shaw fl. 1822–ca. 1840; 1782–1845. Date: 1834/1835. Materials: goldsmith work. Dimensions: height 2.1 cm, width 1.5 cm, depth 1 cm, weight 10 g. Place: Birmingham, England, Great Britain., A small rectangular metal box with a hinged lid, shown from the front on a plain light gray background. The box has an embossed decorative pattern of floral and geometric motifs across its surfaces, with dotted border lines and textured engraving. The metal appears silver in color with areas of subtle dark tarnish and wear that accentuate the etched details. The hinge is visible along the front edge and the lid has a slightly raised central tab. The overall shape is compact with rounded corners and a smooth underside.
