Wine cooler by Boulton & Plate Co. Birmingham; goldsmith and plater firm; fl. 1768–1834. Classicist, Georgian style, 1826/1827. Silver vessel, height 30 cm, width 27 cm, depth 24.5 cm, weight 3725 g. Decor: vine ornament, acanthus leaves, cymatium, decorative strip of vines under the upper edge, stylized kimation on the rim; body on a circular foot decorated with a half-cylinder of laurel and acanthus leaves overlapping a short stem; lower body enclosed with large acanthus leaves, upper body decorated with vines in a diagonal rhombic braid. Plaque with horse racers on the front; a plaque with a secondary inscription in Cyrillic script attached to the back original inscription, probably referring to a prize in horse races, has been erased. Massive handles mounted in satyr masks; satyr heads; jockey on horse, horse racing iconography; corporate mottoes and maker's mark., A large ornate metal vessel with a polished golden surface featuring an open rounded rim with a beaded and scalloped edge, a wide flared bowl with reflective interior, and an elaborately decorated body with sculpted faces, scrollwork, floral garlands, grape clusters, and a relief scene of a horse and rider; the vessel has curved applied handles with detailed leaf and ribbon motifs, a rounded foot and pedestal carved with acanthus leaves and lattice patterns, and the visible colors are shades of gold, with highlights and darker golden shadows.
