Wine cooler by Boulton & Plate Co Birmingham; goldsmith and plater firm; fl. 1768–1834. Classicist, Georgian style, 1826/1827. Silver vessel, height 30 cm, width 27 cm, depth 24.5 cm, weight 3725 g. Circular foot decorated with a half-cylinder of laurel and acanthus leaves overlapping a short stem; body enclosed below with large acanthus leaves, above decorated with vines in a diagonal rhombic braid. Plaque on the front with horse racers; on the back a plaque with a secondary inscription in Cyrillic script is attached the original inscription, probably referring to a prize in horse races, has been erased. Under the upper edge a decorative strip of vines; rim edged with a stylized cymatium; sides with massive ears mounted in satyr masks. Ornament: vine, acanthus leaf, cymatium; iconography: jockey on horse, horse racing, satyr heads; corporate mottoes and maker’s mark noted., A detailed ornate chalice-like vessel with a wide flared rim and a rounded bowl, featuring elaborate relief decoration including acanthus leaves, grape clusters, floral rosettes, and sculpted faces; the surface appears metallic with dominant gold tones and warmer yellow highlights, along with some paler silverish areas on the central band; a pair of sculpted handles extend from the sides with leafy scrollwork; the pedestal base is richly carved with swirling foliate patterns and a textured border; the background is a neutral gradient ranging from light gray at the top to off-white at the bottom.
