Wine cooler by Boulton & Plate Co Birmingham; goldsmith and plater firm; fl. 1768–1834, 1826/1827. Silver vessel, height 30 cm, width 27 cm, depth 24.5 cm, weight 3725 g. Classicism/Georgian style. Circular foot decorated with a half-cylinder of laurel and overlapping acanthus leaves on a short stem; body enclosed below with large acanthus leaves, above decorated with vines in a diagonal rhombic braid. Plaque with horse racers on the front; a secondary plaque with an inscription in Cyrillic on the back original inscription, probably referring to a prize in horse races, has been erased. Upper edge with a decorative strip of vines; rim edged with a stylized cymatium; massive handles mounted in satyr masks. Ornament: vine, acanthus leaf, cymatium; iconography: jockey on horse, horse racing, satyr heads., A top-down view of an ornate metallic vessel with a central circular depression, surrounded by an intricate raised rim with lattice-like patterns and floral motifs; the piece shows a mix of polished and tarnished surfaces with visible scuffs and patina. The vessel includes sculpted handles with detailed, textured designs that resemble stylized organic forms. The dominant colors are gold and brass tones with areas of darker brownish tarnish and subtle hints of silver on the rim, set against a neutral light gray background.
