Wine Cooler, Boulton & Plate Co Birmingham; goldsmith and plater firm; fl. 1768–1834 maker; vine ornament; dedications; jockey on horse iconographic; horse racing; classicism style; Georgian style; acanthus leaf ornament; Satyr heads iconographic; cymatium ornament. Classicist on a circular foot decorated with a half-cylinder of laurel and acanthus leaves overlapping a short stem; body enclosed below with large acanthus leaves, above decorated with vines in a diagonal, rhombic braid. Plaque with racers on the front riders; on the back a plaque with a secondary inscription in Cyrillic script is attached the original inscription, probably referring to a prize in horse races, has been erased. Under the upper edge a decorative strip of vines; the rim is edged with a stylized kimation; on the sides massive ears mounted in satyr masks. Date: 1826/1827. Dimensions: height 30 cm; width 27 cm; depth 24.5 cm; weight 3725 g., An ornate ornamental vessel with a broad flaring rim, a decorative band of carved leaf and grape motifs below the rim, a smooth central band, and an elaborately embossed lower body and pedestal; the vessel displays sculpted handles with stylized leaf forms and lion-head elements, a repeating pattern of embossed rosettes and foliate motifs on the body, and a flared base with carved acanthus leaves and beaded detailing; the visible colors are shades of gold, pale yellow, cream, and muted gray.
