Leg tray by Robert Harper fl. 1853–1869 and Harper & Son London; goldsmith's firm, fl. 1869–1889. Circular patera supported on three volute legs terminating in vine leaves at the base. The mirror features a blind reserve richly decorated with engraved Neo-Rococo ornament in the form of rocailles, rooster combs, acanthus volutes, and floral sprigs. The slightly raised, openwork collar features relief decoration of vine leaves and grapes, with four Dionysus masks at the feet, and high-relief insects butterflies, moths, midges, snails, and a caterpillar. The collar edge is edged with a profiled half-cylinder decorated with shells and a rooster comb. Materials/ornament: insects, vines, snails, caterpillars, head of Dionysus, rocaille, shells, volutes, acanthus leaf. Date: 1860–1861. Place: London, England. Vessel. Height 3.9 cm; diameter 32.5 cm; weight 895 g., A round metallic serving tray with an ornate raised rim featuring openwork floral and scroll motifs and several sculpted shell-like feet, the central flat surface showing an engraved decorative cartouche surrounded by scrollwork and floral designs; visible colors are silver and shades of gray.
