Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Georgian/George III classicism style, 1789/1790, London, England. Silver candlestick supported on a circular, profiled, stepped foot, decorated with a knurled band of stylised acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening toward the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Ornament: acanthus, oak leaves. Function: lighting.
