Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Classicism/Georgian style with acanthus and oak-leaf ornament. The candlestick is supported on a circular profiled stepped foot decorated with a knurled band of stylised acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening towards the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Dated 1789/1790, made in London, England. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; width 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A top-down view of a round metallic object with concentric ridges and a central cylindrical opening, showing a reflective silver surface with areas of darker tarnish and subtle texture; the visible colors are silver, white, light gray, and dark gray to nearly black in the central cavity.
