Single-candle candlestick, John Schofield fl. 1776–1796, goldsmith. Classicism/Georgian/George III style; acanthus and oak-leaf ornament. Candlestick supported on a circular profiled stepped foot, decorated with a knurled band of stylised acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening toward the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled edge. Dated 1789/1790. England, London. Lighting. Height 29.8 cm; width 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A tall metallic candlestick with a reflective silver surface featuring a flared cup at the top and a rounded base, decorated with carved leaf-like and scalloped motifs; a few ribbed vertical sections separate the ornate banding, and the overall color palette shows shades of silver and gray against a pale gray background.
