Classicist two-armed candelabra by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796, goldsmith. Classicism/Georgian/George III style. On a square base surrounded by godron ornament, passing into a circular foot decorated with a surrounding rosette; faceted stem enclosed at the top with a knurled floral tendril, terminating in a vase-shaped socket decorated with acanthus leaves and facets, edged with godrons, in which is set a setting in the form of two faceted, rotating arms ending with plate-shaped profilers and vase-shaped candle holders, separated by a decorative vase with a lid. Engraved on several elements with a tied monogram PHB, dated 1786/1787, London, England. Lighting object. Height 47.5 cm, width 38 cm, depth 13 cm, weight 850 g., A polished metallic object with a reflective silver surface is shown against a plain white background; the object includes a central cylindrical tube or socket flanked by a curved arm on each side that connects to two round, shallow dome shapes with scalloped edges and decorative floral-like mounts where the arms meet the domes; the metal shows highlights and reflections in shades of silver and gray, with some darker gray visible inside the central tube and subtle shadowing along the underside of the arms.
