Classicist Two-Armed Candelabra, by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796, goldsmith; Classicism/Georgian/George III style. Classicist two-armed candelabra on a square base surrounded by godron ornament, passing into a circular foot decorated with a surrounding rosette; faceted stem enclosed at the top with a knurled floral tendril, terminating in a vase-shaped socket decorated with acanthus leaves and facets, edged with godrons, in which is set a setting in the form of two faceted, rotating arms ending with plate-shaped profils and vase-shaped candle holders, separated by a decorative vase with a lid. Decorated with godron ornaments, faceting, leaves ornament and engraved on several elements with a tied monogram PHB, dated 1786/1787, London, Great Britain. Function: lighting. Dimensions: height 47.5 cm, width 38 cm, depth 13 cm; weight 850 g., A silver candelabrum stands against a neutral light gray background, featuring a tall fluted central stem rising from a square base with ridged edges and a scalloped, radiating platform; the stem narrows and widens with ornate collars and decorative fluted and leaf-like patterns. Near the top, the piece branches into two curved arms that extend outward symmetrically and end in cup-like candle holders set on round, ridged drip pans; the central section also has a small finial and decorative knot-like loop where the arms meet. The visible colors are shades of silver and gray.
