Single-candle candlestick, William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802, rococo/George II style, 1763–1764, London, England. Silver candlestick on a raised, domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft and terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan. Ornamented with rococo motifs — rocailles, plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells and acanthus leaves — the entire decoration is slightly spirally twisted. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 717 g., A single ornate metallic candlestick stands against a pale gradient background, showing a silvery surface with decorative raised floral and leaf motifs along its shaft and base; the stem tapers and bulges in sections with carved flower clusters and flowing scrollwork, and the broad foot is shaped with curved edges and embellished with more floral reliefs and rounded forms, all rendered in shades of silver and light gray.
