Single-candle candlestick, William fl. 1757–ca. 1802 goldsmith, rococo, scrap - purchase, plant ornaments, shells ornament, rocaille ornament, cartouches, flowers ornament, Georgian, George II style. Rococo single-candle candlestick on a raised, domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft, terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan. Decorated with rocailles, plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells and acanthus leaves; entire decoration slightly spirally twisted. 1763/1764, London, England. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 717 g., A tall ornate candlestick rendered in metallic silver with a glossy finish, showing a flared top with scalloped edges, a narrow neck with carved leaflike motifs, a central section with raised floral decorations and rounded contours, a lower shaft with scrolling and ribbed details, and a broad decorative base adorned with embossed flowers and flowing acanthus-like patterns against a pale gray background.
