Single-candle candlestick by William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802. Rococo George II style, rocaille ornament; decorated with plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells, acanthus leaves and rocaille motifs. Rococo on a raised, domed foot with a hexagonal rim, flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft, terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan; entire decoration slightly spirally twisted. Dated 1763/1764. Great Britain — England, London. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 695 g., A tall ornate metal candlestick with a shiny silver surface, featuring a scalloped top dish and a sculpted central shaft decorated with floral motifs and flowing leaf designs, a curved midsection with raised floral relief and rounded details, and a wide decorative base embellished with embossed flowers and swirling patterns; the visible colors are silver and subtle variations of gray.
