Single-candle candlestick by William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802, silver, rococo/George II style, 1763/1764, London, England. Rocaille ornament; relief decoration of plant tendrils, flowers, shells, cartouches and acanthus leaves; slightly spirally twisted overall. Form: rococo on a raised domed foot with a hexagonal rim decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft and terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 695 g., A single ornate candlestick rendered in metallic silver tones stands against a neutral grey background, featuring a scalloped dish at the top, an intricately carved shaft with floral and foliate motifs, a bulbous midsection with raised flower decorations, and a broad decorative base with flowing leaf and flower reliefs; the visible colors are silver and shades of grey.
