Oval platter by Benjamin & James Smith fl. 1809–1812, goldsmiths. Georgian/George III style; oval vessel with smooth mirror and multi-leafed ribbed collar, edged with a godron band with four shells on the axes, enclosed within acanthus leaves. Engraved coats of arms on the shorter axis of the collar; underside of the collar engraved monogram GvR, dated 1811/1812. Materials: silver. Place: London, England, Great Britain. Dimensions: height 3 cm; width 47 cm; depth 37.5 cm; weight 2420 g., A large oval metal tray with an ornate scalloped rim and decorative raised edges, showing a smooth interior surface with visible fine scratches and scuffs; the tray appears metallic silver with darker gray shadows along the inner rim and in recessed areas, and there are highlights of bright silver on raised decorative details and the central flat area.
