Oval platter by Benjamin & James Smith fl. 1809–1812, makers; goldsmith's firm. Georgian, George III style. Oval vessel with smooth mirror and multi-leaf ribbed collar, edged with a godron band with four shells on axes, enclosed within acanthus leaves. Engraved coats of arms on collar; underside of collar engraved monogram GvR, dated 1811/1812. Decorations: coats of arms, monograms, godron ornaments, shells, acanthus. Materials/technique: vessel silver. Dimensions: height 3.5 cm; width 58.5 cm; depth 45.4 cm; weight 3550 g. Place: London, England, Great Britain., A large oval metal tray with an ornate scalloped rim is shown against a plain light gray background; the tray appears reflective with a polished silver surface showing subtle scratches and surface marks, and the rim features decorative raised scrollwork and shell-like motifs with ribbed detailing in darker gray tones contrasted against the shiny silver; overall colors visible are silver, gray, and darker metallic gray shadows.
